tech
notes: These are
the original style body molding seals that were used up to 1957.
However, there is a trick to using that these that we
discovered. While, early style metal body molding clips are
still being made, these are actually a later version that we
believe VW started using in 1958. The earlier style had teeth on
them that helped them grab the body hole, while the later style
didn't as they were snugged into place by the later style body
molding seal which just presses into the hole. So, if you want
to use the witch hat style seals and you only have new body
molding clips, here is what you will need to do:
1) Insert the later style body molding seals into the holes on
your VW.
2) Attach the body molding to the car using the newer clips.
3) On the inside of the car whereever the body molding comes
through, glue the "witch hat" style seals in place.
This will give you the original look of the early style seals
wher they are visible (actually only under the hood), but still
give your the sealing quality of the later seals. Also, using
only these early seals with the new body molding clips will
result in loose fitting molding which will allow water through
to the inside of your VW. These original style seals look nice
and work well with the original molding clips, but aren't very
functional otherwise.
Finally, we personally use 3M Super 77 adhesive to attach these
seals.
