This month's feature : a 1997 Mexican
Beetle Dealer Spec Sheet. |
 |
The more things change, the more they stay the same!
As most VW fans know, the Beetle is still being produced in Volkswagen's Puebla, Mexico
plant at a rate of over 400 per day. With this dealer spec sheet of a 1997 model,
you can see some obvious differences among some not so obvious ones! One of the more
apparent changes is the lack of chrome over most of the car. The side body molding is gone
and most normally chromed items are now painted body color or black. Turn signals have
been, of course, moved to the bumper which has itself received new modified brackets. One
not so noticeable change is the plastic fenders. Though the brochure does not show it, the
inside has not changed much other than revised seats, dash pad, and steering wheel. While
this sheet is totally in Spanish, if you click on the back of the brochure, you'll be sent
to a larger more readable copy of it.
Oh, the current cost of a new Beetle in Mexico, about $6500. This includes
Air-Conditioning and Fuel Injection.
Long live the Beetle! |
