In 1965, the Beetle received a bunch of changes
to meet new safety regulation requirements. One of these was a
redesign of the door lock mechanism and striker plate and the
addition of a door guide latch. While the mechanism and striker
plate were just mostly just modifications of the earlier style
so they would work properly with the new doors for 65, the guide
latch was introduced as a safety feature to help prevent your
door from opening unexpectedly while going over rough terrain or
similar situations. This part was only used on 1965 and 1966
doors (in 67 the lock mechanism and striker plate was changed
again which no longer required these parts to exist). Often
these little guys get taken off during a restoration never to be
seen again and being a 2-year only part they can be tough to
find. |
