tech notes: VW originally did not ship any vehicles with outside mirrors - these were added on at the dealership. As a result what mirrors were used varied between the round and pear-shaped styles. Many times if the dealership was able to sell the buyer on a passenger-side mirror it would be a different style than the driver's side - so you would have both round and pear-shaped mirrors on the same car! Please note: there are some vendors who sell an outside mirror that they claim to fit both sides. While technically it will "fit" both sides, the arm is too short to be functional on the passenger's side so watch out for these!
